Community Member Gifts Board Books to READ ENC Little Libraries

After moving to Pitt County to be nearer to her family, lifelong educator, Laraine Jason, connected with READ ENC Community Literacy Coalition more than a year ago to offer donations of new children’s board books, which she happens to love perusing herself. Laraine’s outreach has evolved into a regular event enabling her to make a difference in the lives of hundreds of children and families in our community. Understanding the importance of reading to children from birth, she shops online monthly and purchases approximately 50 children’s board books, which READ ENC picks up at her home (after she has enjoyed looking at them herself). READ ENC then distributes them to the ~40 Little Libraries locations on READ ENC’s map (https://readenc.org/community-lending-library-map/)  for children and families to read together. As READ ENC joins Sheppard Memorial Library in the quest to increase book access and family shared reading for everyone in Pitt County, we are grateful to Laraine for channeling her passion for reading to continue to impact so many throughout our area.
